The name Tellicherry is the anglicized form of Thalassery. Just like the seven hills on the banks of the Tiber river helpwd rome, become a great Empire, there are seven hills in Thalassery which contributed to the prosperity of the surrounding town.As Thalassery has several hills it is also known as the ‘city of seven hills’ Thalassery is recently been announced as Kerala’s first ‘Heritage Town’.

The cuisine of malabar has been influenced by various cultures. for 2000 years, kerala has been visited by ocean-goers, including traders from Greece, Rome,South China, The Eastern Mediterranean,Arab Countries, & Europe(See History Of Kerala).Thus,Kerala cuisine is a blend of indigenous dishes and foreign dishes adapted to kerala tastes. Kozhikode and Thalassery are known as the centers of malabar cuisine.

Tradition Kerala food is veg. & includes kerala sadhya, which is an elaborate banquet prepared for festivals and ceremonies but contemporary kerala food also includes non-vegtarian dishes.Biriyani(Mutton, Chicken,Lamb or Prawn) made as dum tops the list of delicacies.in this kind of preparation, heat is applied both to the top and the bottom of the cooking vessel.
